Far North Holdings – Kaitaia Airport

TARMAC NZ carried out re-construction of the Kaitaia airport taxiway. TARMAC developed a construction plan which would ensure all construction and seal coats were completed in between scheduled Air New Zealand flights to avoid any disturbance to flight timetables.

  • The Works included: surveying of taxiway heights before/during/and upon completion to establish desired asphalt finished levels; stabilising of current taxiway to 250mm in depth and applying a 45mm layer of AC14 to reinstate the taxiway surface.
  • Once curing was deemed satisfactory TARMAC had to mill out the temporary surface (70m3) and membrane, to allow for 45mm of AC14 to be paver-laid to the runway and taxiway area. This work had to be completed in between the Air New Zealand scheduled flight on Saturday afternoon at 3.30pm and Sunday morning flight at 11.30am.
